Sub-oval proton aurora spots: Mapping relatively to the plasmapause

► We map sub-oval proton aurora spots observed with IMAGE onto the equatorial plane. ► We model the plasmapause location on the basis of the Lemaire's theory. ► Most of the proton aurora spots are mapped into the vicinity of plasmapause.
