A systems biological analysis links ROS metabolism to mitochondrial protein quality control

► We mathematically model experimental data from a transgenic strain of the fungal aging model Podospora anserina. ► The strain overexpresses the gene for the mitochondrial superoxide dismutase. ► The strain is short-lived and impaired in mitochondrial functions. ► Our model incorporates mitochondrial quality control into reactive oxygen (ROS) generating and scavenging pathways. ► It is an initial systems biology approach towards a holistic understanding of aging.
