► Maternal protein restriction leads to transgenerational changes in the pancreas. ► It delays islet maturation and reduces the number of islets in F1. ► It reduces beta cell mass and causes hypoinsulinemia in F1-F3 offspring. ► Offspring have lower pancreatic islets and altered distribution of alpha/beta cells.
