Sphingolipid profiling of human plasma and FPLC-separated lipoprotein fractions by hydrophilic interaction chromatography tandem mass spectrometry

► Quantification of free sphingoid bases, sphingosylphosphorylcholine, hexosyl-, lactosylceramide, ceramide-1-phosphate. ► Besides sphingosine d18:1, d16:1 and d18:2 species were found in most lipid classes. ► Hexosyl- and lactosylceramide showed pronounced differences in their species pattern. ► More than 90% of Hexosyl- and lactosylceramides were found in LDL and HDL.
