Natriuretic peptides and NGAL in heart failure: Does a link exist?

► Natriuretic peptides are both important biomarkers for Heart failure diagnosis and risk stratification. ► Heart Failure is often associated with renal dysfuunction and 1/3 of patients admited with Heart Failure develop worsening renal function. ► Worseniong renal function is due to haemodynamic impairement at systemic and renal levels and neurohormonal activation. ► Neuthrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin is an usefull laboratory tool for early identification of renal dysfunction and tubular damage.
