Methionine/galactose ratio on newborn blood spots useful for reduction of false positives for homocystinuria and galactosemia by high-performance anion-exchange chromatography with pulsed amperometric detection

► A simultaneous determination method for methionine and galactose was developed. ► Chromatographic analysis was performed by HPAEC-PAD. ► Met and Gal were determined from blood spot samples and Met/Gal ratio was calculated. ► 300 normal volunteers, 8 galactosemia, and 3 HCU patients were applied. ► It is appropriate to reduce false positives in labs with no galactosemia screening.
