Apolipoprotein E polymorphisms and sleep quality in Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome

► APOE polymorphisms are thought to play a role in OSAS. ► We genotyped APOE polymorphism in 293 OSAS patients. ► APOE ε2 allele carriers showed reduced sleep quality compared to other genotypes. ► ε2 allele carriers are more likely to suffer with OSAS detrimental effects on sleep. ► APOE gene may modulate the effects of intermittent hypoxia and sleep fragmentation.
