Mitochondrial dynamics is affected by 17β-estradiol in the MCF-7 breast cancer cell line. Effects on fusion and fission related genes

► Effects of E2 on mitochondrial dynamics were studied in breast cancer cells. ► Our results show increase fusion and decrease fission in response to E2. ► Mitochondrial proliferation was high in E2-treated cells. ► OXPHOS complexes protein levels decline in response to treatment. ► E2 affects mitochondria increasing fusion because functionality decreased.
