Proliferation assays for estrogenicity testing with high predictive value for the in vivo uterotrophic effect

► Four cell lines were characterised on ERα, ERβ and aromatase levels. ► Twelve reference compounds representing diverse estrogenic action were tested. ► Proliferation results were compared with the outcomes of the uterotrophic assay. ► MCF-7/BOS proliferation assay showed the best correlation with the uterotrophic assay.
