Effects of acute ethanol administration and chronic stress exposure on social investigation and 50Â kHz ultrasonic vocalizations in adolescent and adult male Sprague-Dawley rats

► Adolescents place more incentive value on social interactions than adults. ► Ethanol increased social investigation in non-stressed adolescents. ► Ethanol induced increases in social investigation in restraint stressed adults. ► 50 kHz USVs were not correlated with social investigation. ► Repeatedly stressed rats emit more 50 kHz USVs than non-stressed rats.
