► Calliterpenone (CA) a diterpenoid is a novel growth promoting substance. ► GA3 and CA affect growth attributes, trichomes and essential oil biosynthesis. ► Essential oil accumulation increased more than two folds in plants treated with CA. ► GA3 and CA affect pathway gene expression in a differential manner.
