Diagnostic value of non-invasive bio-markers for stage-specific diagnosis of hepatic fibrosis in patients with advanced schistosomiasis japonica

► Aspartate aminotransferase (ASP) and AST to platelet ratio index (APRI) are good markers of hepatic fibrosis in Schistosomiasis japonica. ► Hyaluronic acid (HA) and tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinases (TIMP)-1 correlate with fibrosis staging in Schistosomiasis japonicas. ► APRI combined with HA increases the power to detect significant liver fibrosis. ► APRI plus TIMP-1 add further value in diagnosing severe liver fibrosis.
