Imagenología coronaria: tomografía de coherencia óptica

Coronary atherosclerosis is routinely assessed using coronary angiography, a technique which determines the degree of obstruction. Intravascular imaging techniques are a complement for evaluating atherosclerotic plaque and vascular anatomy. Optical coherence tomography, using infrared light, characterizes atherosclerotic plaque and intracoronary thrombi, helps to evaluate the degree of coronary stenosis and the length of the lesion, and is useful as a guide for angioplasty and its follow-up.
