Abcès du foie

Liver abscess (HA) is a rare disease affecting mainly 60-year-old men with several comorbidities (diabetes mellitus, liver transplantation, neoplasia). Biliary obstruction is the main cause of HA. Biliary HA and portal HA are often polymicrobial (Enterobacteriaceae, Gram-negative anaerobic bacilli, Enterococcus sp., Streptococcus sp.). Non-fermenting Gram-negative bacillus HA, and fungal HA are health care-associated infections affecting immunosuppressed patients. HA diagnosis is based on imaging (ultrasound or scanner). To find HA origin, both biliary tract and gut tract need to be explored (ultrasound, scan ± endoscopy). Peripheral blood cultures and HA pus culture should be associated to optimize microbiological documentation. HA treatment is based on percutaneous drainage, antibiotherapy, and treatment of the primary source.
