Interactions among situations, neuroticism, and appraisals in coping strategy choice

The present study investigated the interactive effects of situation types, neuroticism, and appraisals on coping with anxiety. Participants completed the Eysenck Personality Inventory to assess levels of neuroticism. They then recalled the most anxious event they had experienced and imagined they were in very similar situations. They described the situations along with their body reactions and emotions. Additionally, participants completed a questionnaire about cognitive appraisals and coping. Results showed significant interaction effects for situation types, neuroticism, and appraisals on coping activities.
