This study analyzed the relationships between interindividual variability (diversity) in vocabulary, sentence comprehension and naming and cognitive reserve (CR) in 83 people aged between 60 and 75 years. CR was estimated using the Cognitive Reserve Questionnaire. A 15-item short version of the Boston Naming Test (BNT) and the subtests of vocabulary and sentence comprehension of the ECCO_Senior battery were used as measures of naming and of lexical and grammatical comprehension. The results indicate: (i) that as CR increased, diversity decreased in the BNT, as well as in verb and sentence comprehension with two propositions; (ii) CR explained between 21% and 18% of the diversity in sentences with two propositions and verbs; (iii) diversity in verb and sentences with two propositions adjusted to Spanish canonical word order significantly decreased when CR values were greater than 16 points; (iv) in the most difficult and complex sentences diversity moderately decreased with CR scores higher than 10 points, and (v) in the brief version of the BNT, significant differences were observed when extreme CR groups were compared.
