The effect of pre-storage cooling on 2,3-DPG levels in red cells stored in SAG-M

The rapid fall in 2,3-DPG can be delayed significantly by cooling whole blood units rapidly after bleeding. Most of the methods we used in our study can easily be implemented in daily routine practise in any blood bank.
