Molecular and biochemical characterisation of a serine acetyltransferase of onion, Allium cepa (L.)

The SAT1 gene of Allium cepa has been mapped to chromosome 7, and northern anlysis has shown that expression of the gene is responsive to S-supply. The recombinant SAT1 protein has a Km for l-serine of 0.72 mM, and 92 μM for acetyl-CoA, and an IC50 value of 3.1 μM for l-cysteine.
