Judd-Ofelt analysis is performed for the new MgF2-BaF2-Al(PO3)3-Ba(PO3)2-based glass system to evaluate the spontaneous emission probability as well as quality factor and branching ratio. The variation of intensity parameters Ω2, Ω4, and Ω6 are analyzed as a function of Nd2O3 concentration. It is found that the efficiency for the 4F3/2â4I9/2 transition enhances and the efficiency for the 4F3/2â4I11/2 transition diminishes as the difference between Ω4 and Ω6 increases with an increase in Nd2O3 concentration. The emission cross section for the 4F3/2â4I13/2 transition varies from 1.1Ã10â20 to 1.15Ã10â20 cm2, and for the 4F3/2â4I11/2 transition it varies from 2.97Ã10â20 to 2.69Ã10â20 cm2 with an increase in Nd2O3 concentration from 1 to 5 wt%. Analysis on non-radiative decay is performed based on multiphonon relaxation mechanisms. The above results are also compared with those of other host glass materials with the similar Nd3+ dopant concentration, which suggests that present new glass is promising for fiber laser applications.
