Forms of SUZ-4 zeolite containing different cations have been studied using Raman spectroscopy. The bands observed have been assigned to various modes of vibration involving the cationic template molecule and the zeolitic framework. The H+ form of SUZ-4 showed bands at a very high frequency region of around 5000Â cmâ1 which were not observed in other cationic forms. These bands have been assigned to the electronic transition of the hydride ion. The very low frequency bands have been used to compare the mobility of various transition metal cations inside the zeolite and that of the fresh and aged zeolite. Raman spectroscopy in conjunction with 1-Propanamine adsorption was used as a probe for detection of Brönsted acid sites.
