Welding stress relaxation effect in butt-jointed steel plates

► Single and double electrode welding processes were used to joint two pair of plates. ► Residual stresses were monitored during two weeks after welding. ► The experimental results show the continuous process of welding stresses relaxation. ► This process is characterized by reduction of the maximum shear stresses. ► Microstructure analysis shows the absence of material failure.
