A compact finite difference scheme for the fourth-order fractional diffusion-wave system

► In this paper, we explore the fourth-order fractional diffusion-wave equations. ► A spacial fourth-order compact difference scheme is presented. ► The stability, convergence of the scheme is analyzed by the energy method. ► Then the extrapolation technique is applied to improve the temporal order. ► Numerical experiments show the accuracy and efficiency of the scheme.
