Two-stage fungal biopulping for improved enzymatic hydrolysis of wood

► A two-stage fungal biopulping method was examined to improve enzymatic hydrolysis yield from wood for ethanol production. ► Fungi grew on Liriodendron tulipifera wood but did not significantly decrease the percent carbohydrate content. ► A two-stage treatment of Ceriporiopsis subvermispora followed by Postia placenta increased the yield of enzymatic hydrolysis.
