Amphotericin B-silver hybrid nanoparticles: synthesis, properties and antifungal activity

Addition of monomeric amphotericin B (AmB) to silver nitrate results in the reduction of silver ions, giving nanoparticles coated with the antibiotic (AmB-AgNPs). The resulting nanostructures are spherical, monodisperse as resolved by high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM). Antifungal susceptibility studies reveal stronger growth inhibition of Candida albicans, compared to the popular antifungal preparation (Fungizone®).119
