Soil organic carbon of degraded wetlands treated with freshwater in the Yellow River Delta, China

► The Yellow River wetlands have been affected by the diversion of freshwater. ► Our study demonstrated the spatial patterns of SOC differed among plant communities. ► We explored the soil properties with particular attention to carbon and nitrogen. ► The cumulative impacts of restoration on SOC in estuarine wetlands were demonstrated.
