Properties of a novel type of starch found in the double mutant “sweet wheat”

► Starch of double mutant sweet wheat is unlike starch of GBSSI or SSIIa mutant parental lines. ► Small, deformed starch granules present in SW throughout seed development. ► Molecular weight of SW amylopectin is reduced. ► SW has novel low molecular weight peak consisting of MOS and short branched glucans. ► SW starch lacks cereal A-type XRD pattern.
