Pectins filled with LDH-antimicrobial molecules: Preparation, characterization and physical properties

► Nanocomposites based on pure pectins and antimicrobial molecules were prepared. ► Active molecules were anchored to double layered hydroxides by ionic bonds. ► The processing used was high energy ball milling in the presence of water. ► All nanocomposites presented exfoliation of the fillers. ► Thermal, mechanical and barrier properties were improved and showed a dependence from the intercalated molecule.
