Isolation and structural characterization of biosurfactant produced by an alkaliphilic bacterium Cronobacter sakazakii isolated from oil contaminated wastewater

► Novel alkaliphilic bacterium C. sakazakii from oil industry wastewater. ► Biosurfactant - low viscosity, pseudoplastic rheology and high emulsification activity. ► MALDI TOF-TOF and GC-MS revealed oligo- and monosaccharide moieties. ► NMR and FT-IR showed characteristics of a number of functional groups. ► Biosurfactant - a potential candidate for bioremediation of oil and hydrocarbons.
