Effect of mixture composition and hardware on the performance of a single stage JT refrigerator

► The performance of a mixed refrigerant JT refrigerator has been studied testing seven different N2-HC mixtures. ► Mixtures with high specific refrigeration effect do not always result in the best cooling capacity. ► The best performance can be achieved with a given mixture only by using appropriate heat exchanger and capillary lengths. ► For a given hardware, optimum mixtures may not always result in an optimum performance.
