Violence in the hospital becomes an increasingly preoccupying issue, but beyond common representations, it is often polymorphic and insidious, harming both patients and healthcare professionals. Topics selectively covered by the media, like violence of mentally-ill patients or mistreatment of old patients must not hide the fact that healthcare institutions generate other forms of violence that affect interdisciplinary relationships. The consequences of violence in working relationships are as a much a human cost as a financial cost. Is the dominant management focus on financial cost control not driving to some form of exploitation of the suffering of the healthcare professionals?
