Brain expression level and activity of HDAC6 protein in neurodegenerative dementia

► HDAC6 is a multifunctional protein that is localized in cytoplasmic inclusions in α-synucleinopathy. ► We investigated whether brain level and activity of HDAC6 are altered in the patients with neurodegenerative dementia. ► Expression levels of HDAC6 were induced in MSA and FTLD-TDP relative to controls. ► The activity did not parallel the induced level of HDAC6. ► HDAC6 activity may be affected in the brains with MSA and FTLD-TDP.
