Identification of complexin II in astrocytes: A possible regulator of glutamate release in these cells

► Cultured astrocytes contain complexin II (Cpx II) but not complexin I protein. ► Serum withdrawal for 24 h results in upregulation of Cpx II. ► Cpx II is a likely key modulator of synaptic activity at the level of astrocytes. ► Astrocytic Cpx II represents a potentially important therapeutic target for the future treatment of neurologic and psychiatric maladies.
