Metabotropic glutamate receptor 5 modulates behavioral and hypothermic responses to toluene in rats

► mGluR5 agonist CHPG attenuated toluene-induced behavioral changes and hypothermia. ► Blockade of mGluR5 potentiated behavioral changes and hypothermia by toluene. ► Inhibition of PKC reversed the attenuating effect of CHPG on toluene's responses. ► mGluR5 may modulate certain responses of toluene in a PKC-dependent manner.
