Hybrid Rubisco of tomato large subunits and tobacco small subunits is functional in tobacco plants

▶ Tobacco plant with a hybrid Rubisco of tobacco SS and tomato LS was generated. ▶ Hybrid Rubisco showed similar enzymatic properties as the tobacco enzyme. ▶ Young plants showed lower chlorophyll content and photosynthesis rate. ▶ Plants reached eventual normal growth and reproduction. ▶ Hybrid Rubisco can support autotrophic growth of plants under ambient CO2/light.
