Neuroprotective effects of quercetin, rutin and okra (Abelmoschus esculentus Linn.) in dexamethasone-treated mice

► We found that chronic dexamethasone prolonged the water maze performance latency time. ► Pretreatment with quercetin, rutin or okra extract shortened the latencies. ► Pretreated these compounds restored hippocampal neurogenesis. ► Pretreatment with these compounds prevented the reduction of NMDA receptor expression.
