Vaccine research, development, and innovation in Brazil: A translational science perspective

► This article updates the Brazilian national capacity for innovation. ► The scientific, technological and industrial policies for vaccine development and production are discussed. ► The results indicate significant progress, but with important gaps that must be overcome for a rapid increase in vaccine research. ► The new Industrial Health Complex Program is presented as a crucial player to bridge these gaps. ► The links between scientific and technological policies should be strengthened to accelerate innovation and development of new vaccine products.
