Pneumococcal disease in South Australia: Vaccine success but no time for complacency

► Universal childhood 7vPCV commenced in South Australia in 2005. ► Large direct benefits of this program have been observed for children aged <2 years. ► At the same time there is some evidence for serotype replacement IPD in this age group. ► There is also good evidence for indirect benefits to adults aged ≥65 years. ► Serotype replacement, however, has substantially eroded the benefits in this age group.
