Generation and evaluation of a recombinant Newcastle disease virus expressing the glycoprotein (G) of avian metapneumovirus subgroup C as a bivalent vaccine in turkeys

► A bivalent vaccine candidate was generated using reverse genetics techniques. ► A recombinant NDV vector expressing the aMPV-C G protein was constructed. ► The replication of the recombinant virus was maintained in vitro, yet attenuated in vivo. ► Immunoresponses against aMPV-C and NDV were induced in vaccinated turkeys. ► Complete protection against NDV and partial protection against aMPV-C was conferred.
