Hepatitis B vaccination of susceptible elderly residents of long term care facilities during a hepatitis B outbreak

► Most long-term care HBV outbreaks have been linked to unsafe diabetes care. ► We assessed response to HBV vaccine among susceptible residents during 2 outbreaks. ► Residents were elderly (median age 80) with multiple comorbidities. ► Overall, 34% (29/86) achieved anti-HBs levels ≥10 mIU/ml after a 3-dose series. ► Seroprotection rates were not associated with diabetes status or demographics.
