Oral vaccination with Lactococcus lactis expressing the Vibrio cholerae Wzm protein to enhance mucosal and systemic immunity

► The Vibrio cholerae wzm gene was expressed in the Lactococcus lactis cytoplasmic membrane. ► The L. lactis-Wzm construct elicited substantial levels of IgG and sIgA. ► Challenge with V. cholerae O1 evoked severe diarrhoea in non-immunised group. ► No diarrhoea in either recombinant or non-recombinant L. lactis treated groups.
