Vaccination of attenuated EIS-producing Salmonella induces protective immunity against enterohemorrhagic Escherichia coli in mice

► Live attenuated Salmonella vaccine producing EspA-intiminC300-Stx2B (EIS) was constructed. ► Promising humoral and cellular responses to these antigens were observed in mice. ► Vaccination of EIS-producing Salmonella protects mice from lethal EHEC challenges. ► EIS-producing Salmonella induced protective immunity can be boosted by injection of purified EIS protein.
