Imagerie et radiologie interventionnelle chez la femme : nouveautés et perspectives

Interventional radiology is a versatile and innovative medical specialty offering minimally invasive diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. Although the spectrum of interventions is broad, the concept unifying these procedures is the use of imaging to perform such procedures. The precise guidance minimizes the risk of complications for patients while improving the efficiency of procedures. Thanks to advances in women's imaging, many treatments can now be performed in interventional radiology as an alternative to the medical or surgical treatments proposed so far. Recent developments have been reported to treat benign or malignant breast lesions, as well as for the management of uterine fibroids, pelvic varices, superficial and deep endometriosis, or uterine vascular abnormalities. In general, studies show low rates of complications and rapid recovery allowing an outpatient basis in most of the cases. However, these techniques and the devices used vary and there is little standardization reported in the literature. The expertise of the operator remains crucial to ensure the success of these procedures which must be discussed in a multidisciplinary consultation meeting. In this article, we will discuss the current indications of procedures performed in Interventional Radiology as well as future perspectives.
