• Aminobenzohydrazide based derivatives 1 and 2 were synthesized and used to recognize F−.
• Simple method of preparation and naked eye sensor for F− ion.
• The probes 1 and 2 can detect 2.65 × 10−8 and 2.0 × 10−8 M range.
• This fluorescence change was further supported by DFT/TD-DFT calculations.
• The probe is also further successfully applied in real samples.
Chemosensors based on aminobenzohydrazide Schiff bases bearing pyrene/anthracene as fluorophores have been designed and synthesized for F− ion recognition. The addition of fluoride ions to the receptors causes a dramatically observable colour change from pale yellow to brown/red. 1H NMR studies confirm that the F− ion facilitates its recognition by forming hydrogen bond with hydrogens of amide and amine groups. Moreover these sensors have also been successfully applied to detection of fluoride ion in commercial tooth paste solution.
