Instrumental limitations in hyperspectral cameras make it difficult to perform high-resolution scanning of microscopic samples. A new instrumental scheme and computational method for improving the spatial resolution of hyperspectral images is proposed. No improvements in the camera resolution are required. Instead, the increased resolution is achieved by combining a high-precision stepping table which shifts the spatial positions of the hyperspectral camera with a maximum entropy superresolution method. The multiple low-resolution hyperspectral images are used to construct a single hyperspectral image with a much higher spatial resolution at all wavelengths such that the spectral profiles in each pixel is accurate. The generated image quality is limited by the resolution and noise of the stepping table and the original camera.
