Structural elucidation, EPR and magnetic interpretation of lanthanide (Ln = La, Nd, Sm) compounds with 4,4′-bipyridine and 2-sulfoterephthalate

Three new 2D lanthanide coordination polymers of general formula {[Ln(stp)(bipy)(H2O)]·H2O}n (Ln = La, Nd and Sm) have been synthesized, using 4,4′-bipyridine (bipy) and 2-sulphotereftalate (stp) as organic building blocks. The paramagnetic Ln3+ ions (Nd3+ and Sm3+) display weak antiferromagnetic coupling, while La3+ exhibits a diamagnetic behaviour.48
