چکیده انگلیسی

• The effect of low dielectric permittivity on the terahertz transparent patch antenna design is analyzed.
• Two transparent rectangular patch antennas are designed, one on a polyimide substrate and the other on a glass substrate.
• The ITO based transparent patch antenna is designed to resonate at 750 GHz.
• The radiation characteristics of the two transparent antennas are analyzed and compared.

Indium-doped tin oxide based optically transparent rectangular patch antennas are designed to resonate at 750 GHz; one on the glass substrate and the other on the polyimide substrate. Characteristics of both the transparent antennas such as impedance bandwidth, radiation efficiency, directivity and gain are analyzed and compared. Polyimide substrate has a lower dielectric permittivity than the glass substrate. The effect of low dielectric permittivity substrate on the radiation characteristics of the terahertz transparent patch antenna is analyzed. The transparent antenna on polyimide substrate is shown to have gain greater than 3.97dB in 714–795 GHz. The proposed transparent antennas are designed and simulated by using finite element method based electromagnetic solver, Ansys–HFSS.

Summary: This plot shows that the antenna gain of the indium-doped tin oxide (ITO) based optically transparent rectangular patch antennas on glass and polyimide. Peak gain of the ITO based transparent antennas on glass and polyimide is 1.43dB and 4.49dB at 785 GHz and 714 GHz, respectively. From Table 3, it can be noted that the gain of the transparent antenna on glass substrate is less than 2dB in 719–785 GHz band. Also the gain of transparent antenna on polyimide substrate is greater than 3.9dB in 714–795 GHz band. The dielectric permittivity of glass substrate is relatively higher than that of the polyimide substrate, so the radiation performance of the transparent antenna on glass substrate deteriorates. So, the transparent antenna on polyimide substrate overcomes the limitations of conventional patch antenna in terms of impedance bandwidth and gain.Figure optionsDownload as PowerPoint slide
