Controllable modification of the conduction properties of carbon nanotube devices through deposition of a metal overlayer onto the sidewalls

► We fabricated carbon nanotube transistor and controlled the conduction pattern. ► We obtained the switching between p-type and n-type. ► Strong contact and the weak charge-transfer contact are compared. ► We performed first-principles calculations to study the contact.
