• Tunable multichannel filtering properties of a 1D photonic crystal are studied.
• We show that the number of channels can be altered by adjusting the lateral position of the incident beam.
• Besides the incident angle, one can change the frequency and the number of channels by tuning the apex angle of the wedge.
• The angular response of the PC wedge filter is also analyzed.
• The obtained results may be useful in designing the integrated photonic devices based on the one-dimensional PCs.
Tunable multichannel filtering properties of a one-dimensional photonic crystal wedge constructed from two one-dimensional photonic crystals are demonstrated theoretically. Using the transfer matrix method, it is shown that the filtering properties, including the frequency and number of channels, can be tuned by adjusting the lateral position of the incident beam, the incident angle and the apex angle of the wedge. The angular response of the PC wedge filter is also analyzed.
