Characterisation of the FAM69 family of cysteine-rich endoplasmic reticulum proteins

► FAM69 proteins are a novel family found in all metazoans examined. ► They are cysteine-rich type II ER-localised transmembrane proteins. ► There are three vertebrate paralogues; FAM69A, FAM69B and FAM69C. ► FAM69A is ubiquitously expressed. ► FAM69B is highly expressed in the brain and in endothelial cells. ► FAM69C is highly expressed in the brain and eye.
