► Injury-induced corneal opacification depends on CB1 blunting of TRPV1 activation. ► Protein-protein interaction between CB1 and TRPV1 desensitizes TRPV1 activation. ► Desensitizing TRPV1 suppresses signaling events mediating fibrosis and inflammation. ► CB1 activation may be a novel therapeutic option to improve corneal wound healing.
